Quest3D 4.0

Last time you could read a bit about the new object oriented system in the next version of Quest3D. In this newsletter we have some additional great news for you. Quest3D 4.0 will come with a brand new physics engine.

Simon Sadler of October Tide ltd. has been developing the "Newton For Quest" plug-in for quite some time now and we were very pleased with the results. Fortunately we were able to transfer the project to Quest3D so we can provide this great physics engine to our users without any additional licensing.

The Newton engine is different from other physics engines because it uses a deterministic solver which essentially means that the simulations are realistic and stable. With Newton you can say goodbye to all those jittering objects in your simulation. The Quest3D implementation of Newton will be feature packed and seamlessly integrated with all the other Quest3D channels.

COLLADA, or COLLAborative Design Activity for establishing an open standard Digital Asset schema for interactive 3D applications is a file format that is widely adopted by the 3D industry. COLLADA is supported by all the mayor 3D companies and software packages.

This importer is different from all other importers because it also allows run-time import of 3D models. Projects will be able to load COLLADA files on the fly and you can use them in the same way as you would do with a CGR file.

A nice extra is that Quest3D will also feature native support for multiple WII-motes. It allows  users to create prototypes for the Wii or use the Wiimote as an alternative interface for their applications.

Release date

Quest3D 4.0 will be available for purchase in Q4 2007. The exact date will be made public later. A beta version will be made available to selected users before this date.

Valuable tips
Pressing the shift key is very useful when selecting colors in the object section. By pressing shift you can drag all three sliders at once.

Did you know there is a full screen 3D animation window? This is great when you are using a dual monitor setup. Select Options->GUI Config mode
->On. Then press the right mouse button over any of the windows and select: Window Type->Animation->Floating Animation 3D View. With F11 and F12 you can then switch this window between windowed and full-screen mode.

You can specify the source folder of your templates. This can be different for every template window. You could have one window with your own templates and a second window with the default templates.
